Encounter with a family member, live, on the phone, going to a grand dinner.

It is Halloween night.

• Your character should be in some kind of costume
•  There is a Halloween costume party at the book store.  
• The diner is running a pumpkin pancakes special all week.  
• There is a halloween party at the bar.  
• A group of about 50 people have gathered in the graveyard and are having some kind of festival.  There are numerous candles of all sizes lit all around the graveyard.  
• A small group has gathered outside of the record store and the doors of the shop are open.  Halloween music is playing loudly from the store.  
• Statue of the Major has been covered in fake, white spiderwebs. 
• The cake shop is selling pumpkin cookies for 50% off
• Mr. Ling-Ling is running up and down the street screaming, "HE'S DEAD! HE'S DEAD! THERE IS A DEAD MAN NEAR MY NOODLES!!! SOMEBODY CALL DE COPS! HE'S HE'S DEAD! HELP ME! HE'S DEAD!!
• There are jack-o'-lanterns lit all over the neighborhood. You should mention one somewhere in your blog.
• 
  

#5 Cookouts and Pumpkin man

The event is a cookout behind Maplewood Crest in the open lot.  The cookout starts at 4:30 and goes well into the night.  The weather is cool, around 60 to 75 degrees with a slight breeze coming from the north.

There is  new business.  Flannigan's Grocery sits next to the art shop/coffee shop.  There is a pumpkin truck that has pulled-up to the side where deliveries are made.  The truck has an open back and is full of pumpkins of all sizes.

If you are to start the interaction with the other character, do so in blog #5.  If you are not starting the interaction, you should write your character's #5 blog and then respond to the other character in blog #6.

Remember:

• What relationships is your character developing?
• What's your character's history--why are they here?
• How can you continue to hook your reader?

#4 - Home is where the heart is?

This week's focus is a bit different than previous posts.  In this blog, you are going to describe the place that your character lives.  Some of you have already given some focus to your place, and you can add to it by considering what details of your place that will help to develop your character.  For example,

• Is there a window in the place that your character always looks out of different times of the day? 
• Does your character have a cleaning routine? 
• What kind of furniture is around? Is there a piece of furniture that is most used?
• Outside if the typical, "There are dishes in sink," what else will help define your unique character?
• How many rooms? 
• Do you have fish?
• Rugs, lamps, pictures on the walls?
• Color scheme, patterns, etc.  

The point is to use details in a way that establishes character and setting.

You must include the following:

• If you live in The Crest, what is your apartment #?
• If you live elsewhere, where specifically?
• If you are homeless or whatever, you should have a regular "resting spot."

Avoid a list-like entry.

#3: Pizza, Pizza, PIZZA!!

Setting: a shopping cart in the middle of the graveyard. There was a huge rain storm the night before and the air is humid, steamy and foggy.

Location: Underground pub in the basement of Maplewood Crest, the Cork and Dagger.Arab Restaurant called the Arab Palace. There is also a diner on Maplewood between coffee shop and Maplewood Crest. It is on the bottom of a three story building. The Paigeman is the name of the diner.

Persons: Jimmy the comedian who plays in the strip club. Terry the hobo and his associates. Alex Brommer is the owner/manger of the diner.

Action: criminal escapes from a near by holding cell.  Apartment kitchen fire in Maplewood Crest that causes a horrible smell of burning linen that permeates the whole building.


Common character and action added later:  Delivery pizza place, Stoned Baked Pizza. The delivery guys, who are identical twins, are named Frank and Fred. There is a girl would works there that they are both in love with. Her name is Savannah.

#2- It was a dark and stormy night

It's raining cats and dogs from 6 AM in the morning until noon.

The front window of the CVS has been smashed in and the alarm is ringing, the police have arrived.

Someone has moved out of Maplewood Crest and his/her boxes are in the lobby.

There are two elevators in the Maplewood Crest. One is out of order.

The people who are moving-out have two large birds and someone has open the cages to both.  The birds are perched in the lobby.

There is a leak coming from the top floor of the building.  It is a small leak, but it's persistent.

The lights are on in the abandoned warehouse.

The rain is so bad that everyone is reluctant to leave wherever they may be inside.

Mention another character in some way.
